Most inserts and trays print best in PLA. It is rigid, holds its shape, and comes in colors that can match a game's theme. If a part snaps into place repeatedly or takes a lot of handling, PETG holds up better. For anything that needs to be soft or grippy, like a dice tray liner, TPU is the move. And if you want upgraded miniatures or detailed figures to replace cardboard standees, that is a resin job.
Color and theming

Finishing and painting
Most inserts and trays look great straight off the printer, especially in PLA, and need no finishing at all. Custom figures and showpiece tokens are a different story.
