Custom 3D Printed Phone Stands & Accessories
A phone stand is the kind of part 3D printing was made for: small, personal, and almost never available off the shelf in exactly the shape you want. Maybe you need a stand angled for video calls, a desk dock with a cable channel, or a mount that grips a phone in a thick rugged case. Whatever the use, a custom print beats a generic plastic prop from a big-box store. Here is how we approach phone stands and accessories at Tex's Prints.
Why custom beats off-the-shelf
Stock phone stands are designed for an average phone with no case. The moment you add a case, a pop socket, or a wireless charger, the fit goes sideways. A custom print solves the actual problem:
- A cradle sized to your phone plus its case, not a guess
- The exact viewing angle you want for typing, watching, or filming
- Cable routing built into the base so the charger does not slip out
- A footprint that fits your nightstand, desk, or car vent
- A finish and color that matches your setup instead of glossy black plastic
Popular phone accessories we print
The category is wider than just a desk stand. Common requests include:
- Adjustable desk stands with a tilt-friendly back leg
- Bedside docks with a slot for the charging cable
- Car vent and dash mounts
- Tripod and ring-light adapters for content creators
- Wall mounts for kitchens and workshops
- Charging station trays that hold a phone, watch, and earbuds together
Choosing the right material
Material choice matters more than people expect, because a phone stand often lives somewhere hot or sunny. Here is the quick rundown.
| Material | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| PLA | Indoor desk stands, prototypes | Softens around 55C, so never in a hot car |
| PETG | Everyday durable stands | Slightly less crisp detail than PLA |
| ABS | Heat-prone spots, tougher parts | Needs careful printing |
| ASA | Car mounts, anything in sun | Costs a bit more than PLA |
| TPU | Flexible grips and soft pads | Not for rigid structures |
For a stand that stays on a desk indoors, PLA is cheap and looks great. If it might end up on a windowsill or in a car, we steer you toward ASA, which is UV-stable and will not warp or sag in the Texas heat. PETG is our go-to middle ground: tough, water-resistant, and forgiving. A common combo is a rigid PETG or ASA body with a TPU pad where the phone rests, so it grips and does not scratch.
Design tips for a stand that works
A few small decisions separate a stand you love from one that wobbles:
Mind the center of gravity
Tall phones tip easily. We weight the base or widen the footprint so a heavy phone in a case stays put even when you tap the screen.
Leave room for the cable and buttons
We model clearance for the charging port, the power button, and any case lip. A stand that covers your volume buttons is a daily annoyance.
Pick a sensible angle
Around 60 to 70 degrees from horizontal is comfortable for reading and typing. A steeper, near-vertical angle suits video calls and watching. Tell us how you will use it and we will set the angle.
Think about the finish
FDM printing leaves subtle layer lines, which most people never notice on a stand. If you want a perfectly smooth, almost injection-molded look for a display piece or a gift, resin printing delivers the finest detail, though resin parts are more brittle and better suited to decorative accessories than load-bearing mounts.
From idea to part
You do not need a finished 3D model to get started. We work from a few different starting points:
- A ready STL file you designed or downloaded
- A sketch and your phone's make and model
- A reference photo of a stand you like, with notes on what to change
If you already have a model, you can send it straight over and upload your file for a quick review. If you are starting from an idea, request a quote with your phone model and how you plan to use the stand, and we will help shape the design.
Built local, built right
We are based in Cypress, TX and serve the Greater Houston area with local pickup, plus nationwide shipping. Because we are nearby, you can hand us your actual phone and case to match, which removes the guesswork that trips up online-only services. A phone stand is a small part, but getting the fit and angle right is what makes it something you actually use every day instead of tossing in a drawer.
