3D Printed Replacement Knobs, Handles & Fittings

One of the most useful things 3D printing does is rescue something you already own. A stove knob cracks, a drawer handle snaps, a thermostat dial goes missing, an appliance is fifteen years old and the manufacturer stopped making the part a decade ago. Tossing the whole item is wasteful and expensive. A custom 3D printed replacement knob, handle, or fitting brings it back to life. Here is how we approach replacement parts at Tex's Prints.

When a printed replacement makes sense

Printed replacements shine in exactly the situations that frustrate everyone:

  • The part is discontinued or the manufacturer no longer supports it
  • The OEM replacement costs more than the item is worth
  • You need it fast and do not want to wait weeks for shipping
  • You only need one or two, not a minimum order of fifty
  • The original was poorly designed and you want it improved
  • It is a vintage or specialty item with no aftermarket support

Common replacements we make

The list is long because so many everyday items fail at a small plastic part:

  • Stove, oven, and appliance knobs
  • Cabinet and drawer handles and pulls
  • Thermostat and dial controls
  • Furniture feet, glides, and connectors
  • Window and blind cranks
  • Tool handles and grips
  • Adjustment knobs on equipment and machinery
  • Brackets, clips, and small fittings that hold things together

Choosing a material that lasts

The right material depends entirely on where the part lives and what it endures. This matters a lot for replacements, because the original may have sat near heat or in the sun for years.

The single most important rule: never use PLA anywhere it might get hot. A PLA stove knob or a PLA part near an oven will soften and deform because PLA goes soft around 55C. For knobs near heat, ABS is the right call since it handles temperatures around 100C. For most cabinet handles and general fittings, PETG is the durable, water-resistant default. For anything outdoors or in the sun, like a window crank or patio fitting, ASA resists UV and stays solid. TPU is ideal when you want a soft-touch grip that flexes.

How we recreate a part you cannot find

You do not need a 3D model to get a replacement. We work from what you have:

Bring or send the broken part

If you have the original, even in pieces, we can measure it and rebuild the model. Being local, you can drop off the broken knob and we will match the shape, the shaft fit, and any splines or D-shaped openings precisely.

Measure the mating feature

The critical dimension is usually how the part attaches: the diameter of a shaft, the size of a splined post, the spacing of screw holes, or the depth of a slot. We focus on getting that interface exact so the new part fits like the original.

Work from photos and references

For simple parts, clear photos next to a ruler plus the make and model of the item are often enough for us to recreate it.

If you happen to already have an STL of the part, you can upload your file and we will confirm it is printable. Otherwise, request a quote with a description or photo of what broke.

Why FDM is usually the right choice

Replacement knobs and handles get gripped, twisted, and pulled, so they need to be strong. FDM is strong, durable, and cost-effective, which makes it the natural fit. For high-stress attachment points, like a knob on a metal shaft, we can design in a recess for a metal insert or a captured nut so the connection does not wear out. Resin produces the finest detail but is brittle, so we avoid it for handles that take real force and reserve it for small, detailed decorative parts.

Strengthen the redesign

A nice bonus of recreating a part is that we can improve it. If the original always cracked in the same spot, we thicken that area or change the geometry so your replacement outlasts the part it replaces.
