GLP-1 & Peptide Vial Labels: What Research Suppliers Put on the Label

Peptide research suppliers, and especially the wave of GLP-1 class research lines, have become one of the biggest slices of our vial-label work. The products change (semaglutide one quarter, tirzepatide and retatrutide the next), but the label problem is remarkably stable: a small glass vial, a cold chain, a buyer who checks lot numbers, and a label that has to stay legible through all of it. Here's how we walk peptide suppliers through the label decision. And one thing we should say up front: we print labels. We never sell peptides or research compounds, and never advice about them.

The peptide vial is a hostile place for a label

A lyophilized peptide vial spends its life in refrigerators, freezers, and insulated shippers. Every time it comes out, condensation beads on the glass within a minute, faster in a Houston summer. Gloved hands, alcohol wipe-downs, and repeated handling finish off anything fragile. Paper labels don't survive this; they wrinkle at the first sweat and smear at the first wipe. That's why effectively every peptide label we print runs on white film: water-, smudge-, and abrasion-resistant once the pigment ink cures.

One nuance that trips up first-time peptide suppliers: cold performance below zero is an adhesive property, not a face-stock property. If your peptide line is stored frozen, say so at quote time and we'll match a freezer-grade adhesive. And label dry, room-temperature vials: wipe with isopropyl alcohol, apply, let the adhesive set, then chill. Nothing we print is rated for liquid-nitrogen immersion, and we'll tell you that plainly rather than let you find out.

What goes on a GLP-1 research label

Across hundreds of peptide-supplier conversations, the field set has converged. Procurement teams and repeat buyers expect:

  • Product name: the peptide, stated the way your catalog states it
  • Strength / concentration and volume
  • Lot number and batch number
  • Manufactured date and expiration or retest date
  • QR code or barcode: usually pointing at the certificate of analysis
  • COA reference: the number a buyer matches against the certificate
  • “For research use only. Not for human use.”: the line we recommend as the default on every research peptide label

Some suppliers also leave a blank write-in line on the label, a date field their customers fill in by hand. That's ordinary label content and prints fine. What we don't do is advise on regulatory wording: label content (claims, warnings, required text) is entirely yours to own. We print exactly what you approve on the proof.

Sizing: the 2 ml wrap rules this category

Most GLP-1 research vials are 2 ml or 3 ml crimp-top glass, about 16–17 mm across. On that glass, our 2.125 × 1 in film label runs a full wrap with roughly an eighth inch of overlap, film sealing onto film, which locks down the leading edge against handling and condensation. On a 17 mm (3 ml) vial the same label lands nearly edge-to-edge. Larger peptide blends in 10 ml or 30 ml vials move to 3 × 1 in wraps or hand-apply panels. Six-point type is our floor for body text, and a 2 × 1 label with nine structured fields reaches that floor fast. The fix is hierarchy, not shrinkage: name and strength big, lot/batch/dates in a tight grid, the QR carrying everything that doesn't need to be human-readable at arm's length.

Lot numbers that change every run, without new setup

Peptide catalogs turn over constantly: new batches monthly, new blends quarterly. Variable-data printing is native to our digital press, so lot numbers, batch numbers, and dates change run to run, or unit to unit from a CSV, with no plates and no setup fee. And because every label in an order counts toward the same volume tier regardless of design mix, a twelve-peptide catalog at 50 labels each prices like one 600-label run. Minimums start at 50 labels per design.

The proof is where problems die

Every first run gets a digital proof before anything prints: barcodes checked for scannability, type checked against the 6 pt floor, the wrap checked against your vial's actual circumference. Approved designs are stored, so reorders (and peptide suppliers reorder often) skip proofing and go straight to production.
