Minimum Orders & Bulk 3D Printing Explained
One of the most common questions we get at Tex's Prints is some version of "do you have a minimum order?" The short answer is no, we will happily print a single part. The longer answer is that quantity changes the economics in your favor, and understanding how helps you plan whether to order one, ten, or a few hundred. Here is how bulk 3D printing actually works.
Is there a minimum?
For most jobs, there is no hard minimum. Need one custom bracket? We will print one. This is one of the real advantages of additive manufacturing over injection molding, where tooling costs force you into thousands of units before the math works. With printing, a quantity of one is viable.
That said, very small custom orders carry the same fixed setup costs as larger ones, so the per-unit price on a single part is the highest it will ever be. That is not a penalty. It is just the setup, slicing, and handling spread across one item instead of many.
Why bulk gets cheaper per unit
Every job has costs that do not change much with quantity:
- Reviewing and prepping the file
- Slicing and dialing in print settings
- Loading material and starting machines
- Quality checks and packing
When you order one part, that work is carried by one part. When you order fifty, it is spread across fifty. On top of that, we can nest multiple copies onto a single build plate and run machines more efficiently overnight, which lowers machine time per piece. Those savings flow back to you.
How discounts scale
We do not publish a rigid price chart because the right structure depends on the part. A tall part that fills a printer one at a time scales differently than a small part where we can fit forty on a plate. But the general shape holds: the more you order, the less each one costs.

What helps a bulk quote
To price a batch accurately, send us:
- The 3D file (STL or STEP).
- The total quantity you want, and whether it is one-time or recurring.
- The material or the conditions the part has to survive.
- Your deadline, since large runs take longer to print.
- Any tolerance or finish requirements that apply to every unit.

Consistency across a run
Bulk is not just about price. It is about every part coming out the same. We keep settings, material lots, and orientation consistent across a run so part number one matches part number one hundred. For functional parts that have to fit an assembly, that repeatability matters as much as the discount.
Lead time on larger orders
Printing is fast for one part and slower for hundreds simply because machines can only run so many at once. A large order is a queue of build plates. We will give you a realistic timeline up front rather than promising a date we cannot hit. If your deadline is tight, tell us early so we can plan capacity or stagger deliveries.
