How We Ship 3D Printed Parts Safely
A perfect print is only perfect until it survives the trip to you. Plenty of customers have a story about a fragile part that arrived in pieces from some far-off vendor who tossed it in a thin envelope. We will not do that. Packing is part of the job, and we treat it like it matters, because it does. Here is how we ship 3D printed parts safely from our shop in Cypress, TX.
Why prints need careful packing
3D printed parts have specific weak points. FDM prints can split along layer lines if dropped on edge. Thin features, antennas, tabs, and delicate detail snap under point pressure. Resin parts can be more brittle than they look. Shipping is rough: boxes get dropped, stacked, and thrown. Good packing assumes the worst and protects against it.
Our packing process
1. Inspect before packing
Every part gets a final check before it goes in a box. We are not going to carefully wrap a part that has a defect, so quality control happens first. If it does not pass, it does not ship.
2. Wrap each part
Parts are individually wrapped so they cannot rub or knock against each other. Bubble wrap or foam goes around the whole part, with extra attention on protruding features that are most likely to break. Small parts are bagged so they do not get lost in the packaging.
3. Immobilize inside the box
The enemy of a shipped part is movement. We pack so the contents cannot shift, using filler that fills the void completely. A part that cannot move cannot bang into the box wall. For fragile or expensive pieces, we use the double-box method: a wrapped part in an inner box, suspended in cushioning inside an outer box.
4. Right-size the box
Too big a box means too much empty space to fill and more room to rattle. Too small means no cushioning room. We match the box to the part with enough margin for protection on every side.
5. Seal and label
Boxes are sealed with proper tape across the seams, and fragile orders are marked accordingly. None of this guarantees a carrier is gentle, but it stacks the odds heavily in your favor.
